About us

The library network of the Bologna Library System, which is part of the National Library Service, includes about 300 libraries affiliated with different entities (the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, the Cultural Heritage Service of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Bologna, the Metropolitan City of Bologna and other entities) that work together to ensure a successful management of the collective catalogue and guarantee access to documents and information.

Like all the other library systems, the Bologna Library System is part of the National Library Service (SBN), the digital network of Italian libraries promoted by the Ministry of Culture with the cooperation of the Regions and the University and managed by the Central Institute for the Union Catalogue of Italian Libraries and Bibliographic Information (ICCU).

The SBN network consists of 101 peripheral territorial library systems for a total of about 6800 libraries. It allows access to the national collective catalogue, facilitating the retrieval of documents and their consultation and overcoming the fragmentation of the Italian library network.

In the Bologna Library System catalogue you can find antique and modern books, magazines, films, music and sound recordings, documents and manuscripts, theses, audio/video resources, graphic and cartographic materials, e-books and digital journals.

You can also: view your reader situation, save your searches, make and publish bibliographies, make suggestions for purchase, ask a librarian for help with complex bibliographic searches, discover the latest editorial purchases, view book covers and read summaries, browse library shelves, expand web searches and link to Google Books, Facebook and Twitter.
